‘Tis The Season - For Lice?

November 17th, 2006 · No Comments

Yesterday I was reading a post on [tag]BlogHer[/tag], one of my favorite sites. Lisa Stone had written about how she had gotten to experience having lice, and that she’d gotten her hair cut short because of it.

She also wrote how the first thing she did was go to the drug store near the school to get some de-lousing shampoo. Though there was none available there (having been bought up by all the other kids’ {with [tag]lice[/tag]} families), she found some somewhere else:

And by the time [a picture shown on the site] was taken, I had washed and combed my hair and my son’s with enough chemical nastiness to cause a third foot to grow out of our foreheads.

Ugh! I remember having lice as a kid, it having gone around at my school. I don’t remember the actual experience of having them on my head, but I do remember how much I disliked the process of getting rid of them. And I remember my mom using vinegar on my head - must’ve been the seeds of my natural lifestyle. )

Back to Lisa… It’s too bad she didn’t know about the [tag]LiceGuard Robi Comb[/tag], for which I got a post suggestion today, oddly enough! If you read Lisa’s post all the way through, you’ll see this is a situation many, many parents have to deal with. Ahhh, the joys of kids being back in school, eh?

So about this comb: according to a recent post at Cool Tools:

This high frequency, high voltage [tag]nit[/tag] / lice comb means no more toxic shampoo; just zap them with electricity!

The low voltage provided by a single AA battery has got to be more comforting than the thought of the [tag]health[/tag] concerns (or a third foot D ) after using the chemical-laden delousing shampoo (unless you are a person who suffers from epilepsy, heart disease or have a pace-maker or other neurostimulator - then you shouldn’t use it).

You can also use it to detect if there are lice present, according to School Health,

Robi Comb is a proven success with both nurses and parents. Robi Comb tells by an audible signal whether head lice are present. It is a reliable and safe [tag]alternative to chemical treatments[/tag] and concerns about pesticide-resistant lice. Use for screening and re-screening.

Even though I [tag]homeschool[/tag] my kids, they do play with their public schooled friends. If I ever have the need, I’ll definitely be getting one of these combs! Now I’ve got to stop writing about this because my head is itching from the thought of it all. P
