It’s a rare day that goes by without my husband asking, “Where’s my (keys, wallet, cell phone)?”. He never puts anything in the same place, which just amazes me. I’ve tried many different things to help him be more organized, so that he’s not frantically searching for something as he’s in a rush to leave for work. But all of my attempts are to no avail.
I’ve finally found something that will help him (and that I know he’ll use ‘cuz it’s unique and “fun”
, and will also be useful for the rest of the family.

The Loc8tor is an electronic device that allows you to “tag” items and then find them if they get lost. From their site:
From finding keys, handbags or mobile phones to ensuring the safety of your children, pets and personal possessions, Loc8tor’s versatility means it can be used in almost any situation by simply attaching the tag to any item you want to protect.
In the Locate mode, you are directed to misplaced items with audio beeps and an on-screen directional display guide. The Loc8tor Plus has an Alert mode; an invisible safety zone is set up around the “Handheld”, and when the tagged item, person or pet moves out of the boundary, you are alerted with audio-visual and vibrational alarms.
Tags (a little larger than a paperclip) can be attached either with a key ring loop or a “high strength adhesive strip”, both of which come with the pack. When you register each Tag, you give it a name, and you select that item from the screen when you’re searching for it. Each Handheld can track up to 24 Tags, and your neighbor’s Handheld will not track your items, as the Tags are uniquely registered to your Handheld during the set-up process.

Currently not available in the US, according to the site a warehouse is to be in place by the end of the year. It’s also going to be available in languages other than English; Spanish, French and German language menus are supposed to be available any day now, if they’re not already (I’m just going by the information currently on their site).
Besides my husband’s keys, wallet, and cell phone, I plan to use it on my cell phone (my little one likes to play with it and leave it somewhere, like under the couch), all of our remotes (Tivo, DVD, VCR - yes, we still have an ancient machine), home phone (gosh, maybe I shouldn’t have started this post by mentioning my husband’s bad habit :oops
, and everybody’s shoes. That’ll take at least 10 Tags, but we’ll be able to find the shoes quickly when they’re not in them, and the kids when they are in them!
.
Guess we might need two packs, so that we can locate our Loc8tor!
If you’d like to see video of a guy finding his black cat outside at night, you can check it out at YouTube (I haven’t figured out how to have the video play here). When I have video here (hopefully at the beginning of 2007) and if I ever get one of these (hmmm, maybe as a gift this holiday season
), I’ll add my own video here.
Maybe we’ll play Hide and Seek with the kids. At night. With them all in black. Heck, that’s not even funny. :? Maybe we’ll play Hide and Seek with my husband, at night, with him all in black. I know he’d enjoy that, (and I’d know my kids were safe) and it would probably become a regular event here.
